KITE FOR A KING
This kite is super easy to make and it really works!
This craft is perfect to make on a slightly breezy spring day. You can make it fairly quickly. Give each child the kite pattern, a precut bamboo skewer (9 1/2 inches), a small ball of yarn, a 1” strip of plastic (3 to 4 feet long), and 4 pieces of tape. The kites will be ready for flight in under 20 minutes.
I found the instructions for this kite several years ago. I was a Den Mom for my son’s Cub Scout group. One of the badge requirements was to make and fly a kite. Making a kite is pretty time consuming, so I looked for a kite that could be made in under 30 minutes. I found one you could make with one sheet of paper. The boys had to use a ruler to make measurements to make the folds and punch the hole where they’d tie the string. They drew designs on their kites. We were outside flying the kites in under 30 minutes. The boys had a lot of fun!
The king kite can be assembled in about 10 to 20 minutes. Your kids can color and decorate the king’s face and crown after they’ve assembled the kite. If your kids want to make their own design on the kite, they can fold the “king’s nose” to the back (by folding the instructions to the inside). After refolding, they can make their design on the blank side of the paper.
